    The data indicate that an overemphasis on providing teachers with knowledge and skills on action research did not change teachers' behaviour to do research. Secondly, the need for teachers to have the knowledge and skills in research is important, but more paramount is the need for teachers to apply this knowledge and skills in embarking on. After spending an in-service training day with teachers and administrators, I left feeling their pain. In my view, most educators are caring individuals who want the best for their students. One male teacher, however, approached me after my session with a despondent look on his face.
